Musings At the Mop

If you had walked into my church this morning, you would have encountered an audio assault. As usual, I had my radio cranked, just loud enough so that I can hear it over the noise of my commercial vacuum, I call her Princess. I spent some quality time with Robin Mark in the fellowship hall, and Chris Rice in the kitchen. These are moments often spent in contemplation as the work is quite methodical and tedious and the brain is free to wander. I play praise music to keep my mind in a positive place and I really find my work a time of worship.....even when I'm on my knees beside the toilets. Not everyone gets that....some people walk into the church and can't believe anyone gets anything done with "all that racket". It' s not like I'm listening to Skillet or Thousand Foot Krutch, then I might agree with them.

This morning I was also processing some sad news I got last night about the sister of a friend receiving a serious diagnosis. So as I'm singing "there's no God like Jehovah!"....I wonder if that family is able to sing that too today. Where do they see God today. Is He on His throne? Does He have a hand in all this? Or are they sheltering under His wings today? These are the things I think about when I am mopping and swishing. Sometimes I get answers, sometimes I don't. Always I am lifted up and filled with gratitude. At times when I am mopping, I write a column that my congregation should read and when I put my mop back on my cart, I push delete.

I don't take my self too seriously though! She who can laugh at herself will never cease to be amused!

I must tell you the most exciting thing I did this afternoon!! I GOT TO GO GROCERY SHOPPING! Ray always does the groceries because I am an impulse buyer! I'm sure we all suffer from psychological deficiencies of one sort or another and we can be honest here. So this morning I sat down and very diligently made a list of things that I might encounter at the store and would want to buy, but if they're on the list they're premeditated and not impulse purchases!!! See the logic!!! Ray also gave me his list to go to Shoppers. Now ladies ......you know when you send a guy to the drugstore you have to have VERY specific instructions as to what particular brand of feminine hygiene products to purchase and exactly what colour it should be, right? I had to ask Ray all the specifics this time...what kind of shaving cream and what colour, what scent, what size...etc. If not for the details I would've come home with the wrong thing for sure! I think I did it right! We'll see. I DID exceed the "reasonable" amount that Ray usually spends but.....I think I will be "The BEST MOM EVER" when lunchboxes open this week!!! And isn't that what it all boils down to? Awards you can give yourself!!

All that excitement....AND I got to buy supplies for the kitchen at church. Now I have everything to make coffee again, which I do every Sunday morning, but we were getting dangerously low on SugarTwin!!

My eldest is off to a sleepover this afternoon after he gets off the bus. I have some phonecalls out to see if I can offer anyone a ride....since I am sooooo often on the receiving end of getting rides. ...welcome to MY world!!

Before I go....has anyone ever heard of Circle Journals? If you have ....is anyone interested in having a circle?? Think about it!!

Anyway....love ya!

I often have a lot of questions as well, but noo answers.I just know that God is in control, and even though we can not make sense of things, I know He has a master plan.
To me that is a great comfort.
It is great to have a time to meditate on these things, even when it is done while doing a thankless job like mopping floors.
Max Luxado also has a meditation like that, I think it is called:
"The voice from the mob bucket"
Have a great evening,
Love Elisabeth

I was just thinking when I was reading your blog about the impulse shopping, Hey, that sounds familiar. But then I read Amanda's comment, and she said it all. Hey, what can I say.
On the sad note, I'm sure that it is hard to see God's will and way, when we are confronted with hardship. And then it depends weither we blame God, or weither we look for comfort to Him. Either way it is tough.
We hope to spend tomorrow morning with Matt & Amanda yet, have lunch and then we are of to home. Home sweet home. I guess this comment is long enough to be a blog by now.
So, until next time. Love, Randall
