Carpe Computerum

Seize the computer!! And that's just what I am doing. This most opportune moment came and I took it! Ray is at a meeting and I am sitting here in my workout clothes. I really should be doing yoga which is way more fun than my physio exercises, to help my sore hips clear up. I have bursitis. I am getting old. My DVD will wait most patiently, while Ray is rather persistent about his computer needs.

Ahhhhh, so nice to sit a bit. It has been a good week. I have taken care of my building and my families. Funerals are a busy time, but it makes you feel so useful to be there for these families. Perhaps that is because I remember how much I appreciated people who were there for us when Mom and Dad passed away. This was our 3rd funeral in two weeks and the second one in two days. There is also the chance that there will be a third one this week, as a member of our congregation is in their last days in the hospital. There is always a crew of volunteers in the kitchen putting a luncheon together and having coffee and sweets ready for the families when they return from the cemetery. The tables get put out and are set with everything for coffee and tea. It is a special time of working together but mostly we are fellowshipping over the counter and by the sink. When everyone leaves....I vacuum, wipe, and wash. I love that "quiet" time and strangely enough, there didn't need to be any music this week. (I must be in need of a new cd!) It's just constant motion and enjoying the solitude. Everyone needs that kind of time too.

We had a bit of a mishap in the parkinglot when a contractor, who came to the visitation, backed into the telephone box and pole, pulling up the stabilizing cables. We now have a telephone pole getting pulled over, cable hanging about 8-10 feet off the ground over a thoroughfare, and a box spewing wires of every colour. This is not good. So....I called Bell. Apparently all their technicians were tied up for the day and the soonest anyone can come is tomorrow between 8am and 5pm. Bell time is different than Tetcy time....so I gave them my home number too so I don't have to hang around church all day. I have to clean in the morning so wouldn't it be nice if they could come then too. Most likely one of the wires is ripped completely from one of the homes behind the church. The pole is leaning AWAY from their house and the cable has so much slack that it disappears in the lawn. I locked the gate across the thoroughfare and strung caution tape between the pole and the church so that no one in a bus tries to turn around back there and take the rest of the cables with them. That would just end up badly.

So I've cleaned the church 3 times already this week and I was ready to come home and collapse. I searched for something for supper that would go nicely with a collapse, since that has to be done on the couch and not in front of the stove..... but we already had a pizza on Sunday night. Strangely enough I still had some energy and decided to cook Bahmi and made peanut sauce to go with it. I have to admit that I cooked that mostly with the leftovers in mind since everyone is deserting me this weekend....so....I guess if you have to fend for yourself you may as well set yourself up with something yummy or you'll live on popcorn for 3 days.
Nice to have some energy!

Tomorrow is my regular cleaning day at church and I plan to tackle the usual...the sanctuary. The rest got tidied a bit this afternoon before I left, since there is choir tomorrow night, and I think it should look somewhat respectable....especially since I'm always after them to clean up after themselves....but that's another story for another day.

So it was a good day....as the janitor I don't end up doing too much of the consoling part for the families. It's being behind the scenes, making sure there is a sound technician, the lights are on, the minister has his glass of water, the windows open or closed, AIR CONDITIONING IS RUNNING FULL TILT....it was over 30 degrees yesterday and we were thankful the funeral was in the morning. Our sanctuary is not insulated and it can get stiffling in there. I also help the kitchen crew if necessary but these last two days were very well staffed. I often do the setting up and the take down but this crew even did most of that, since they don't think I should have to do ALL that. Which is funny because I don't think they should do ALL that....so we are at an impasse. They are usually very sneaky about putting things away while I am not looking. That's the week in a nutshell...quiet cleaning, sneaky people, bad backer-uppers, and fine fellowship. Hope yours is good too!

My week is going good. The weather is cooperating as well. That was quite a backer upper job. I had my little encounter with an overhead telephone cable and the sprayer.
Long story, some other day, over coffee, haha.

I didn't know you had trouble with your hips. Just like your Mom. Hope you're feeling better after a bit of rest and physio.
Sounds like a mess with the phone wires. Did Bell finally show up? Don't you just hate waiting for them to make an appearance?
So... continue on with your quiet and not-so-quiet cleaning, lovely weather, fellowship, and enjoy your weekend alone. I see lots of card making in your future. :D
Love, Karen
