A tree blooming outside our motel in Phoenix made me think that inspiration for Dr Seuss books is everywhere....
Yuma Territorial Prison, site of several movie sets, and the real wild west.   Lots of texture here!  And it was HOT here!
This is also the place where we caught our first glimpse of the Colorado River.   In the distance you see the incredible amount of agriculture that thrives along the river, and in the middle of this dessert, irrigation has been perfected.   A Google earth image will show a swath of perfect green squares along the river in a sea of sand.
I loved driving toward California.  I would NEVER rub that in!  We listened to Switchfoot's new album "Fading West"....love this song! 

Next stop?  Salvation Mountain, Niland, California.

February

This last photo is the view up the street.  See the lamp on our driveway?  So much snow!!

We had such sunny winter days this month.  Snow storms followed by lovely blue skies. I have had to adjust my view of this long winter somewhat.  I have been know to embrace winter and encourage others to do the same.  After all, we ARE Canadian!   Our patriotic Olympic pride was at its height this month as we focused on Sochi, Russia!  At this point in March, my love for winter MIGHT be replaced by long-suffering.  We can make it through winter...after all, we ARE Canadian!  The sunny days make it bearable.

I have had lovely treks by the creek with our pup.  She loves it...but the snow got really deep to be fun...we could use some snow shoes!


We had many school snow days. 

Favourite things this month:

• Our youngest was accepted into College. 
• He procured himself a snowboard and several pairs of boots.  Great deal on Kijiji and good times at the hill by the nursing home!! 
• We are planning a bucket list get away. Stay tuned for March Photos

 My least favourite thing: I gave my notice at one of my jobs...a relief yet a sadness.

January

 ...and that's our month in a nutshell.   Busy life and a few outings.
Max was at our house for a couple of weeks and then he went to his new home. 

Favourite things this month?  Walks in the sunshine! Basketball games hither and yon... My small group is wrapping up "James: Mercy Triumphs" by Beth Moore.
Least favourite?  Hawks in the backyard!   Bird activity is really down.  

I notice all the bird tracks around the feeder.  They remind me of all the thoughts that go around in my head and what that must look like.   The birds all gather around a place where they can feed.  Is that what my life is like?  Are all my thoughts good thoughts.  Am I feeding my mind good things, even as I glean around a feeder?  Is there a hawk around that preys on my thoughts?  I wonder sometimes.   Good thing for the Sonshine!!!
